Sapporo Symphony Orchestra celebrates its 60th anniversary on July 1.

Under the name of Sapporo Citizen’s Symphony Orchestra, 50 members started with Masao ARAYA, founding principal conductor and Masahisa ENDO, assistant conductor.

Having rehearsed for nearly 2 months, the first Subscription Concert took place at Sapporo Shimin Kaikan on September 9, 1961.

Since then, the orchestra is to present the 640th Subscription on September 11 and 12, 2021.
