Preliminary Audition | Primary Round (Live audition by section members) ● Date and Time: Monday, September 22, 2025 from 10 am ● Venue: Sapporo Art Park Art Hall Arena (2-chome, Geijutsu-no-mori, Minami-ku Sapporo telephone +81(0)11-592-5596) ● Repertoire (1) Concerti with piano accompaniment ①1st movement from Mozart Horn Concerto No. 4 in E-flat major K. 495, including cadenza ②A 2nd movement from Mozart Horn Concerto No. 4 in E-flat major K.495 Note: Instrument that can be used will be full double horn only and B-flat single nor discount horns are not to be used. The orchestra will arrange a piano accompanist, but the applicant can also attend the audition with his/her accompanist. In this case, any fee incurred will be burnt by the applicant. There will be no rehearsal with the accompanist for the primary round audition. The accompanist will be preparing with Barenreiter, but there is no limitation for the soloist regarding the publisher. |
How to apply, Application deadline | ● How to apply Download the application form and Consent in Handling Personal Information from the Sapporo Symphony Orchestra official website, fill in necessary information requested and paste your identification photo. Send the application form to the address noted below by a registered post. The application forms are not returnable. ● Deadline of application Must arrive by Monday, September 1, 2025 ● Result notification The result will be notified by post, by Monday, September 29, 2025. Those who passed the primary round may be notified by telephone. We ask those who passed the primary round to perform as the guest principal horn with the orchestra for the Sapporo Symphony Orchestra concerts until the secondary audition. The number of performances will be designated by the orchestra. |
Secondary Round, Final Round | ● Date and Time: Monday, January 26, 2026 in the afternoon (TBD) ● Venue: Sapporo Art Park Art Hall Arena (2-chome, Geijutsu-no-mori, Minami-ku Sapporo telephone +81(0)11-592-5596) ● Repertoire (1) Concerti with piano accompaniment ①Mozart Horn Concerto No. 4 in E-flat major K. 495, including cadenza ②R. Strauss Horn Concerto No. 1 in E-flat major op. 11; 1st and 2nd movements (2) Orchestral Study (details will be notified to those who passed the primary audition) ●Result notification The result will be notified by telephone who passed the audition. ■Final Round (Live audition by all orchestra members and interview) ●Date and Time: Tuesday, January 27, 2026 in the afternoon (TBD) ●Repertoire Same as the secondary round <Precautions for the preliminary secondary round and final round> ・The orchestra will arrange a piano accompanist, but the applicant can also attend the audition with his/her accompanist. In this case, any fee incurred will be burnt by the applicant. There will be a rehearsal time with piano during the morning of the audition day. 2. Recording Audition | Repertoire should be video-recorded in the listed order observing precautions listed below. ● Repertoire (1) Concerto :C.P. Stamitz Viola Concerto in D major, 1st mvt. till recapitulation (without cadenza) ※No piano accompaniment (2) Orchestral Study ① Puccini Manon Lescaut Scene 3, intermezzo 1 to 12 mm ② Grieg Holberg Suite No. 1 Praeludium 1 to 30 mm ※No repeat ③ Grieg Holberg Suite No. 5 Rigaudon solo 1 to 42 mm ※No repeat ④ R. Strauss "Don Juan" 1 to 40 mm 1st note (until B) <Precautions> ・The recordings must be done one time-sequence, with no interruptions or cuts between concerto and orchestra excerpts. The recordings must be done without piano accompaniment. ・Candidates are free to choose the edition or publisher of the scores. ・The recording must be made within 6 months before the date of application. ・Video must be recorded longitudinally without any revision after recording. The angle of the camera must be fixed throughout the performance. ・Image on the video must cover the applicant’s body, from knee to head. The whole instrument, face of the applicant and both right and left hands must be recorded. ・For the orchestra excerpt, the applicant may sit or stand while playing but needs to follow the above condition. ・The music and movement of hands must be simultaneous, and if not, may be rejected for further judgement. |
